Debate over genetically modified kalo continues in Hawai’i (USA)

The debate over the genetic modification of kalo continues in the state legislature and testimony we heard last Wednesday before the House agriculture committee. Those in favor of the bill as well as those opposed to it came out to voice their concerns. From a Hawaiian perspective, kalo is more than a food source. There is much stronger connection. ”Those biopharmaceutical corporations want to buy (our ancestor) Haloa, sell off Haloa, genetically modify Haloa. And its wrong!” said Daniel Anthony, Mahi Kalo Waianae.
