Genetically Engineered Animals

Since 1999 GENET collects and distributes information on various topics in the field of genetic engineering in agriculture, food production and health. With this "Special Topic: GE Animals" GENET aims at providing an overview about the worldwide debate on genetically engineered animals, based on our archives. GE animals or GE products from animals are under research and development to be used for very different purposes:

• GE salmon for speeding up industrial fish production
• GE pigs to reduce waste output from industrial breeding units
• GE mosquitoes as tool to eradicate malaria
• GE rabbits and goats producing GE therapeutic proteins in their milk
• GE silk as advanced material for eg. bullet-proof vests
